Double mechanical seal operation (see shaft seal) requires barrier fluid pressure (see also barrier fluid).
This pressure must always exceed the pump pressure to be sealed. The pressure is generated by the isolation fluid system, which also ensures that the generated frictional heat is dissipated and that the leaking fluid is filled.
